Federal BCBS has decided to approve IMRT after all, so I’ll start the fancier (also safer and more effective) radiation treatment tomorrow.
How is this not a terrible waste of everyone’s time, and an unnecessary additional stressor?
The US medical care system is insane, and I say that as someone with good insurance and excellent healthcare.
It seems to me that insurance companies (and, in fact, many big companies period) do things simply because they can, even when it’s not in their best interest, much less their customers interest. I’m glad they finally approved the IMRT.
I think you’re partly right, Vince. They do it because they can, and because if my doctor doesn’t fight hard enough it saves them money. Win-win, from their point of view. It’s not about my health or my doctor’s opinion so much as their bottom line.
Or, fuck for-profit healthcare. I want single payer!
(My medical group is non-profit.)
